Adjectives describe people or things. You’ll need them whenever you want to describe what something or somebody is like. The book is new, the tree is high. You get it. Memorize the Chinese adjectives below and you’ll be well equipped for most basic conversations.

Adjectives in Chinese modify 名词 (nouns). But where do adjectives go in Chinese sentences? In general, there are two rules you should follow for structuring a sentence:

1. Chinese subjective + very + adjective

她很漂亮。She is very beautiful.

这非常重要。It's very important.

2. Adjective + of(的) + noun

一辆新的汽车 A new car

一颗高高的树 A high tree
