When you ride a bicycle on the country road

With Mt.Cangshan on your left and Erhai Lake on your right

2006年，一个叫林登的美国人来到这里

In 2006, American guy Linden came here

把一栋民国时期的豪宅

And transformed a villa built during the Republic Era

改造成了一家特别棒的民宿

Into a fantastic hostel

我已经在喜洲待了14年了

I've been here in Xizhou for 14 years

把我们美国的工作放弃，房子都卖掉

Gave up our jobs in the States, sold our house

wǒ jué dé wǒ hái huì dài nián

我觉得我还会待40年

I think I will stay here for four decades more

十几年前，我从上海来到徽州

More than a decades ago I came to Huizhou from Shanghai

chà bù duō zài nián qián

差不多在4、5年前

And four, five years ago

在碧山开了猪栏三吧这家客栈

I started this Zhulansanba hostel in Bishan

我们希望在乡下能生活得简单一点

We wish for a simple life in the countryside

像猪一样的简单快乐

Simple and happy, like a piggy

差不多90%的公共空间吧

90% of the hostel is public space

You can always find a corner to yourself

měi zuò gāo yī diǎn

每做高一点

Every time we increase the height

We would retreat deeper in the fields

不通车，甚至连条像样的路都没有

You can't drive here as there isn't really any road

dàn shì dà jiā hái shì yuàn yì káng zhù xíng lǐ

但是大家还是愿意扛著行李

But people would still go there

zǒu fēn zhōng de shān lù qù tā men jiā zhù

走15分钟的山路，去他们家住

Carrying their baggages for 15 minute walk

hǔ fēng shān yǒu zhòng qìng xiǎo jiǔ zhài de yī gè měi chēng

虎峰山，有“重庆小九寨”的一个美称

Hufeng mountain is known as the "Jiuzhaigou of Chongqing"

dà bù fēn de zhòng qìng rén dōu bù zhī dào zhè lǐ

大部分的重庆人都不知道这里

Not a lot of Chongqingers know this place

wǒ men shì yǐn jū zài sēn lín lǐ

我们是隐居在森林里

We are hidden in the woods

shì bù néng zhí jiē tōng chē dào dá de

是不能直接通车到达的

Cars don't come in here

xiū jiàn mín sù fèi yòng de huà qián qián hòu hòu chà bù duō duō wàn

修建民宿费用的话，前前后后差不多500多万

The cost is about five million yuan

zhè gè lǐ miàn yǒu wǒ men de fù mǔ de

这个里面有我们的、父母的

Us and parents all pitched in

hái yǒu wǒ men dǐ yā de fáng zi de dài kuǎn

还有我们抵押的房子的贷款

And there is a loan with our house as collateral

bù xíng dà gài liǎng sān bǎi mǐ

步行大概两、三百米

It's two, three hundred meters walk

xià xíng yī duàn qīng shí tái jiē cái néng zǒu dào wǒ men de mín sù

下行一段青石台阶，才能走到我们的民宿

Walk down a few stone steps and you will see our hostel

nà tiáo gǔ dào yě hěn tè bié chà bù duō yě yǒu nián de lì shǐ le

那条古道也很特别，差不多也有100年的历史了

The trail is special too, it's 100-years-old

suǒ yǐ wǒ bù xī wàng qù pò huài tā

所以我不希望去破坏它

That's why I want to keep it as it is

méi yǒu qù xiū zhè gè lù

没有去修这个路

So no road

wǔ cǎi hú

五彩湖

The Colorful Lake

xià tiān hěn duō rén zài nà ér yóu yǒng

夏天很多人在那儿游泳

Many swim in it during summer

dōu shì yī xiē yě shēng de nà zhǒng yú

都是一些野生的那种鱼

And there are wild fishes

wǒ bà bǐ jiào xǐ huān diào yú rán hòu huí lái zuò gěi kè rén chī

我爸比较喜欢钓鱼，然后回来做给客人（吃）

My father likes fishing, and he would cook the fishes for the guests

在温州的永嘉

Yongjia, Wenzhou

有一家民宿能看到梯田、竹林 、远山

There is a hostel where you can see fields, bamboos and distant mountains

还能吃到土灶烧出来的

And here you can have very good meals

我叫小熊，我是土生土长的温州人

I'm Xiaoxiong, born and raised in Wenzhou

xué de fǎ lǜ zhuān yè zài běi dà shàng guò xué

学的法律专业，在北大上过学

I majored in law, studied in Peking University

hòu lái bì yè jiù zài běi jīng zuò le lǜ shī zhè yī xíng

后来毕业就在北京做了律师这一行

And became a lawyer after graduation

我回到了老家

Later I came back here

动手改造了第一栋乡舍

And did my first transformation work

“墟里壹号”最特别的应该是它那个大露台

One thing special about "Xuli No.1" is its big terrace

rán hòu wǒ men dōu huì jiān chí yǒu kāi fàng shì chú fáng

然后我们都会坚持有开放式厨房

And our open kitchen

rú guǒ nǐ cháng shì guò dòng shǒu qù yòng zhè gè zào tái de huà

如果你尝试过动手去用这个灶台的话

If you have tried out the stove

nǐ jiù huì néng gǎn jué dào zhè gè tǔ zào de chuī yān

你就会能感觉到这个土灶的炊烟

You will feel the smoke

hái yǒu tǔ zào sàn fā chū lái de zuò fàn de nà gè wèi dào

还有土灶散发出来的做饭的那个味道

And the smell of cooking

It's very different from gas stove or induction cooker
