从事饮食研究跟写作工作大概有20多年的时间

I've been researching and writing about food for over two decades

我目前一共出了17本书

I published 17 books

我们家其实很小

Our apartment is not huge

成员现在很单纯，就是我和我先生两个

And we have two family members for now, my husband and I

我的生活跟饮食是非常紧密结合在一起的

Our life is intertwined with food

书房跟厨房可能是居家最重要的两个空间

The study and the kitchen are the two spaces that set our home apart

The kitchen island

zhàn wǒ zhěng gè jū jiā de miàn jī zú zú sì fēn zhī yī dà

占我整个居家的面积足足四分之一大

Takes up 1/4 of the total area

我前面有非常美丽的风景

Beautiful view is in front of me when I stand there

ér qiě suǒ yǒu de dōng xī zài zhōng dǎo shàng miàn jǐn zài shǒu biān

而且所有的东西在中岛上面尽在手边

And everything is with in arm's reach

所以整个动线上面最有效率

So it is the most effective design in terms of working around the kitchen

In life and for work

我非常剧烈频繁在用厨房

I stay in the kitchen a lot

大部分的餐具以及我主要的调味料都放在这个抽屉里

Most utensils and spices are stored in the drawer

nà chōu tì wán quán méi yǒu sǐ jiǎo

那抽屉完全没有死角

The drawer is fully utilized to the last inch

qǔ yòng rèn hé dōng xī nǐ dōu bù xū yào fān zhǎo

取用任何东西你都不需要翻找

You don't need to dig for things

diào guà de shuǐ piáo a huò zhě liào lǐ kuài chǎn zi

吊挂的水瓢啊，或者料理筷、铲子

Bailer, chopsticks, spatulas

suí shǒu jiù kě yǐ zhuā chū lái

随手就可以抓出来

They are just lying out there for you

我做菜从不重复

I seldom repeat myself in the kitchen

The basis is Taiwanese cuisine

And on top of that I throw in some Japanese, Spanish, Thai, Indian and South Korean features

我很讨厌吃重复的东西

I dislike having the same thing again and again

suǒ yǐ nǐ rú guǒ wèn wǒ yǒu shén me ná shǒu cài wǒ kě néng dá bù chū lái

所以你如果问我有什么拿手菜我可能答不出来

So if you ask me what's my signature dish

因为我没有什么菜是一做再做

I may not have an answer

zuò cài wǒ men jiù shì yī qǐ de

做菜我们就是一起的

My husband and I cook together

wǒ zuò suǒ yǒu pēng diào liào lǐ de gōng zuò

我做所有烹调料理的工作

I'm in charge of cooking

wǒ xiān shēng fù zé xǐ mǐ xǐ cài

我先生负责洗米洗菜

And he is in charge of preparation

wǒ hěn xǐ huān yī zhào shí lìng lái chī

我很喜欢依照时令来吃

I always eat seasonally

dāng jì dāng dì shèng chǎn zuì fāng měi de shí cái

当季当地盛产最芳美的食材

The best ingredients are local ingredients in season

nǐ yuè yán jiū shí cái yuè shì le jiě shí cái

你越研究食材越是了解食材

The more you learn about ingredients

jiù huì fā xiàn shì zuì xīn xiān xiàn qǔ de

就会发现是最新鲜现取的

The more you will see

nǐ yī diǎn diǎn dì diào wèi

你一点点地调味

That fresh ingredients, through careful seasoning

tā jiù huì fēi cháng fēi cháng de měi wèi

它就会非常非常的美味

Could become exquisite delicacy

zuò fàn de shí hòu

做饭的时候

When I prepare a meal

huì gēn wǒ xiān shēng tǎo lùn shuō

会跟我先生讨论说

I would discuss with my husband

jīn tiān xiǎng hē shén me jiǔ

今天想喝什么酒

What wine shall we have today

yǐn yǔ shí de dā pèi kě néng xìng tài duō le

饮与食的搭配可能性太多了

There are so many possible combinations

nóng de pèi nóng de dàn de pèi dàn de

浓的配浓的，淡的配淡的

Rich with rich, light with light

qù zhǎo gēn tā de wèi dào xiāng jìn de shí wù qù píng héng

去找跟它的味道相近的食物去平衡

To pair it with something similar in taste

zài wǒ de zhōng dǎo tái zhè yī biān

在我的中岛台这一边

On this side of the island

jiù shì yǒu yī gè kōng jiān shì fàng suǒ yǒu de liè jiǔ

就是有一个空间是放所有的烈酒

There is a storage space for spirits

wǒ zì jǐ huì diào gè zhǒng de jiǔ lái hē

我自己会调各种的酒来喝

And I would fix us drinks

wǒ fēi cháng fēi cháng xǐ huān qù zhuī sù shí cái de yuán tóu

我非常非常喜欢去追溯食材的源头

I love to pursue an ingredient to its very origin

zuò hěn duō shí cái de shí yàn

做很多食材的实验

And I experiment with them

所以我随时都在取材

So it's like I'm collecting materials all the time

好像从来不下班

Like I work around the clock

基本说我工作是朝九晚二

Basically I start one day's work at 9am

zǎo shàng jiǔ diǎn dào líng chén liǎng diǎn

早上九点到凌晨两点

And wrap it up at 2am

shēng huó lǐ miàn wǒ zuò yī dùn fàn

生活里面我做一顿饭

Cooking a meal

yě huì chéng wèi wǒ xiě zuò de líng gǎn

也会成为我写作的灵感

Could be an inspiration of my work

wǒ de shū fáng jiù shì wǒ de gōng zuò de dì fāng

我的书房就是我的工作的地方

My study is my office

chú fáng gēn shū fáng zhī jiān shì jǐn mì lián tōng de

厨房跟书房之间是紧密连通的

And it is connected with the kitchen

gōng zuò de shí hòu yī zhuǎn tóu wǒ jiù kě yǐ kàn dào wǒ de lú tái

工作的时候，一转头我就可以看到我的炉台

I can see my stoves from work

wǒ xiān shēng shì yǒu yī gè xiǎo xiǎo de shū zhuō

我先生是有一个小小的书桌

My husband has his own desk

wǒ men liǎng gè rén de gōng zuò chà yì xìng hěn dà

我们两个人的工作差异性很大

We do quite different things

suǒ yǐ shuō wǒ men liǎng gè rén de gōng zuò qū

所以说我们两个人的工作区

So our offices

gāng hǎo shì wǒ men zài jiā jù lí zuì yuǎn de liǎng duān

刚好是我们在家距离最远的两端

Are located at two opposite ends

bù kàn dào yě kě yǐ

不看到也可以

We don't have to maintain visual

hǎn yī shēng dōu néng tīng dé dào

喊一声都能听得到

But we can hear each other

zài zhè gè hěn xiǎo de kōng jiān lǐ miàn

在这个很小的空间里面

In such a small space

suǒ yǒu de dōng xī dōu shì liú tōng de

所有的东西都是流通的

Everything is not independent

tā wán quán jiù shì zài wǒ de shēng huó de jié zòu

它完全就是在我的生活的节奏

It's exactly the pace of my life

wǒ jué dé zhēn zhèng rén shēng de zhì lè bù shì biǎo miàn

我觉得真正人生的至乐不是表面

The true happiness is not on the surface

ér shì nǐ duì yú měi yī zhǒng shì wù nǐ dōu yǒu chōng fēn de le jiě

而是你对于每一种事物你都有充分的了解

It's your understanding of things

yǐ jí pǐn wèi biàn bié gēn gǎn zhī de néng lì

以及品味、辨别跟感知的能力

And the ability to taste, identify and perceive them
