我大概六七岁的时候

When I was six or seven

fù qīn gěi wǒ mǎi le yī xiē shuǐ guǒ jiào qīng táng lǐ zi

父亲给我买了一些水果，叫青塘李子

My father bought me some fruit Qingtang plum

gǎn jué qīng táng tā xiàng yī gè jiù shì yǒu chí táng

感觉（青塘）它像一个就是有池塘

Qingtang is the Chinese word for cyan pond

yǒu hé huā yǒu chá shì

有荷花，有茶室

Where there is lotus flower and tea room

rán hòu yī jiā rén zài zhè lǐ dú shū kuài lè dì shēng huó

然后一家人在这里读书，快乐地生活

And a family lives a happy life here, reading and all

wǒ jiào wáng jiàn wǒ shì yī míng zhì cí rén

我叫王健，我是一名制瓷人

My name is Wang Jian and I’m a porcelain maker

wǒ de zhì cí líng gǎn zhǔ yào lái yuán yú sòng dài zhì cí de jí jiǎn měi xué

我的制瓷灵感主要来源于宋代制瓷的极简美学

I am mostly inspired by the minimalism idea about porcelain of Song dynasty

dān sè yòu de chuàng zuò shì sòng rén jí jiǎn měi xué de tǐ xiàn

单色釉的创作是宋人极简美学的体现

Monochrome glaze is a manifestation of Song minimalist aesthetic

yě shì wǒ zhì qì zhuī qiú de fāng xiàng

也是我制器追求的方向

And it is my pursuit

zuò cí qì wǒ men yě hěn duō nián le

做瓷器我们也很多年了

We’ve been making porcelain for years

qí shí hái shì yǒu kùn huò le

其实还是有困惑了

But sometimes we got confused

nǐ zuò de zhè xiē cí qì dào dǐ gēn nǐ de shēng huó yǒu méi yǒu guān xì

你做的这些瓷器到底跟你的生活有没有关系

Is your porcelain connected to your life

nǐ yīng gāi shì zài yī gè shén me yàng de jiā qù tǐ xiàn de

你应该是在一个什么样的家去体现的

And in what kind of family do you want to present them

zào yuán wǒ men méi yǒu huà yī zhāng tú zhǐ

造园我们没有画一张图纸

We didn’t have one blueprint of the garden

wǒ shì zuò dào nǎ lǐ wǒ jiù yòng shēn tǐ de gǎn shòu gēn dào nǎ lǐ

我是做到哪里，我就用身体的感受跟到哪里

I feel it as we build it

yuán zi de rù kǒu xiān kāi zhú zi

园子的入口，掀开竹子

At the entrance, you push aside the bamboos

tuī kāi mén zǒu qù yuàn luò de shí hòu

推开门走去院落的时候

Open the door and enter the garden

yī gǔ zhè zhǒng qīng sè pū miàn ér lái

一股这种青色扑面而来

Cyan is the first color to embrace you

yuán zi suǒ zài de zhè gè chǎng tā shì yī gè lǎo de guó yíng cí chǎng

（园子所在的）这个厂它是一个老的国营瓷厂

The plant was a state-owned porcelain factory

mén nèi hé mén wài tā shì liǎng gè shì jiè

门内和门外它是两个世界

And the door separates two different world

tíng yuàn zhōng jiān wǒ men wā le yī gè shuǐ chí

庭院中间我们挖了一个水池

In the middle we dug up a pond

yī gè hú lú xíng

一个葫芦形

A pear-shaped pond

jiù yǒu diǎn xiàng dào jiā de qǔ tiān dì zhī jīng qì de gǎn shòu

就有点像道家的取天地之精气的感受

There is kind of Taoism concept in it

yuàn lǐ miàn yǒu liǎng gè dà shù

院里面有两个大树

There are two giant trees in the garden

yī kē hěn cū zhuàng de chūn shù yī kē xiāng zhāng shù

一棵很粗壮的椿树，一棵香樟树

A sturdy tree of heaven and a camphor tree

yòu biān de zhè yī piàn wǎ fáng xiū shàn le zuò wǒ men de zhǎn tīng

右边的这一片瓦房修缮了，做我们的展厅

The houses on the right wing are restored as our exhibition hall

wū miàn shàng jiù zuò le yī gè yán shēn

屋面上就做了一个延伸

And the house extends

xià miàn xíng chéng le yī gè yuán lín de láng de gòu zào

下面形成了一个园林的廊的构造

And becomes a winding corridor

zǒu jìn qù de jiù shì yǒu yī gè xiǎo de zhōng táng

走进去的就是有一个小的中堂

It leads to a central room

huā qí shí duì zhōng guó rén lái shuō jué dé hái shì mán zhòng yào de

花其实对中国人来说觉得还是蛮重要的

Flower is a prominent figure in Chinese culture

tīng táng chū xiàn le huā

厅堂出现了花

The flower in the hall

yī dìng shì yào ràng lái de kè rén jué dé shì hěn fēng shèng de yī zhǒng qì xiàng

一定是要让来的客人觉得是很丰盛的一种气象

Conveys an atmosphere of vitality

jiē dài kè rén zhěng gè de yī gè guò chéng tā shì yǒu gè cì dì de guān xì

接待客人，整个的一个过程，它是有个次第的关系

Receiving a guest is a sequenced process

shǒu xiān lái de kè rén

首先来的客人

First we welcome guests with a cup of tea

wǒ men xiān zài zhè lǐ dà jiā jìn xíng yī gè chá xù

我们先在这里大家进行一个茶叙

We talk over tea

rán hòu wǒ men yòu kě yǐ zhuǎn huàn yī gè qíng jǐng

然后我们又可以转换一个情景

Then the setting changes

lái dào wǒ men de chá shì

来到我们的茶室

We are now in the tea room

zài yuán zi de xī běi de jiǎo luò

在园子的西北的角落

On the northwest corner of the garden

lìng yī dòng fáng zi de yī lóu

（另一栋）房子的一楼

The ground floor of another building

wǒ men zuò dào zhè lǐ nǐ kě yǐ zòng lǎn quán bù yuán zi lǐ miàn de jǐng sè

我们坐到这里，你可以纵览全部园子里面的景色

We sit here and overlook the entire garden

yī bān lái de kè rén wǒ huì gěi dà jiā pào sān pào chá

一般来的客人，我会给大家泡三泡茶

Our standard reception is three different kinds of tea

dì yī pào chá jǐng dé zhèn dāng dì de fú liáng lǜ chá

第一泡茶，景德镇当地的浮梁绿茶

First one is Fuliang green tea from Jingdezhen

dì èr pào chá jiù shì wǔ yí shān de yán chá

第二泡茶就是，武夷山的岩茶

The second one is Wuyi rock tea

zhè zhǒng tiān mù hēi de chá hú

这种天目黑的茶壶

Teapot like this with tenmoku black glaze

yīn wèi tā shàng miàn yǒu yòu bǎ tā fēng zhù

因为它上面有釉把它封住

As it is glazed

tā bù huì gǎi biàn chá de tāng sè gēn tā de wèi dào

它不会改变茶的汤色跟它的味道

It doesn’t affect the color and taste of tea

wǒ de zhè gè pǐn chá guò chéng tā xiàng yī gè jiē tī yī yàng

我的这个（品茶）过程它像一个阶梯一样

Enjoying tea also has steps

bù bù gāo

步步高

Each step deeper than the last

fèng huáng dān cóng chá zhè kuǎn chá yī rán yòng zhè zhǒng diǎn chá fǎ lái chōng pào tā

凤凰单丛茶这款茶，依然用这种点茶法来冲泡它

Fenghuang Dancong tea is brewed following the traditional Song style

wǒ hěn xǐ huān pào chá de nà zhǒng yùn lǜ de guò chéng

我很喜欢泡茶的那种韵律的过程

I like the rhythm of tea maing

zhè gè chá shì de gōng néng qí shí tā shì duō gōng néng de

这个茶室的功能其实它是多功能的

The tea room is actually multifunctional

yě kě yǐ yòng cān

也可以用餐

We can dine in here

zài xiǎng shòu shí wù de guò chéng zhōng qì wù de chéng zài shì hěn zhòng yào

在享受食物的过程中，器物的承载是很重要

While enjoying food, the containers are important

shū fáng duì rén de yī gè qíng gǎn yào qiú gèng xì nì

书房对人的一个情感（要求）更细腻

Study is exquisite in terms of the emotional experience it offers

zhè gè dēng qí shí shì wǒ zài shū fáng zài xiě zhuàn shū de shí hòu lái de líng gǎn

这个灯其实是我在书房在写篆书的时候来的灵感

The inspiration of the lamp struck me when I was writing seal script

qín dài de xiǎo zhuàn tā de nà zhǒng xiàn tiáo de zhōng zhèng hé tā de zhū yuán yù rùn

秦代的小篆它的那种线条的中正和它的珠圆玉润

Seal script of Qin dynasty is righteous, elegant and polished

zhè kuǎn dēng de zhěng gè xiàn tiáo shì yī gè hěn wēn rùn

这款灯的整个线条是一个很温润

The outline of the lamp is just as smooth

yě jiù shì yī gè dēng lóng de suō xiǎo bǎn

也就是一个灯笼的缩小版

It’s a mini-sized lantern

qì mǐn de qì qí shí jiù shì tōng wǒ men zì jǐ de jīng qì shén de qì

器皿的器，其实就是通我们自己的精气神的气

Ware represents our own mental status

suǒ yǐ zài zào qì de guò chéng zhōng

所以在造器的过程中

When you are making a ware

jiù tōng guò ní tǔ zài bǎ nǐ zhè yàng de yī gè jīng qì shén de shū fā biǎo dá chū lái

就通过泥土再把你这样的一个精气神的抒发表达出来

You are expressing your manner through soil

wǒ men de hái zi yě zài yòng tā men cóng lái méi yǒu dǎ huài guò yī jiàn cí qì

我们的孩子也在用，他们从来没有打坏过一件瓷器

Our son uses them, and he never breaks one

tā de nèi xīn tā jué dé zhè gè hǎo dōng xī

他的内心他觉得这个好东西

He knows they are fine objects

shēng qǐ yī gè xī wù de yī zhǒng qíng huái

升起一个惜物的一种情怀

So he cherishes them

wǒ xiǎng gǔ rén wèi shén me bǎ cí qì jiào wèi cí qì

我想古人为什么把瓷器叫为瓷器

Why porcelain is called “Ciqi” in Chinese

kě néng jiù shì nǐ zài yòng zhè xiē qì wù de shí hòu

可能就是你在用这些器物的时候

Which is a homonym of “merciful articles”

ràng nǐ qù zhǎng yǎng yī kē zhè yàng de cí bēi zhī xīn

让你去长养一颗这样的慈悲之心

I think it’s telling us to be merciful while using them

dāng wǒ men huí shǒu yī qiān duō nián qián de sòng dài de zhì cí shǐ de shí hòu

当我们回首一千多年前的宋代的制瓷史的时候

When we look back on the history of porcelain

nà gè shí hòu de rén men yǐ jīng tōng guò cí qì

那个时候的人们已经通过瓷器

Since Song dynasty people has been perfecting their lifestyle

bǎ suǒ yǒu de shēng huó fāng shì qù zuò le yī zhǒng wán shàn

把所有的生活方式去做了一种完善

Through porcelain

zhěng gè yuán zi dōu shì wǒ zì jǐ zhěng gè qì xī huò zhě shēn tǐ duì tā de yī zhǒng gǎn shòu

整个园子都是我自己整个气息或者身体对它的一种感受

The whole garden is my feeling of it
