‘And she can’t speak either’

kě shì wǒ hé tā yòng yǎn jīng zài jiāo liú

可是我和她用眼睛在交流

‘But I communicate with her through the eyes’

mā mā de ài jiù xiàng quán shuǐ zī rùn zhù wǒ

妈妈的爱就像泉水滋润著我

‘My mom’s love feeds me like a spring’

wǒ ài mā mā jiù xiàng ài zì jǐ de shēng mìng

我爱妈妈就像爱自己的生命

‘I love my mom, just like loving my own life’

wǒ kàn dào zhī hòu

我看到之后

When I read it

xīn lǐ yóu wèi yī chàn

心里尤为一颤

I was so touched

tā mā mā yǒu le nǎo mó yán

他妈妈有了脑膜炎

His mom suffered from tubercular meningitis

jīng shén kě néng yǒu shí hòu yǒu yī xiē bù zhèng cháng

精神可能有时候有一些不正常

Sometimes she could not be in her right mind

tā méi yǒu rèn hé de zhè zhǒng zì bēi

他没有任何的这种（自卑）

But he didn’t feel inferior at all

tā yīn wèi yōng yǒu zhè yàng de mā mā ér zì háo

他因为拥有这样的妈妈而自豪

He was proud of having such a mother

wǒ qù le tā jiā

我去了他家

I went to his home

yáng guāng tè bié hǎo

阳光特别好

It was sunny

tā jiù zài yī gè mù zhì de jià zi chē xià miàn

他就在一个木制的架子车下面

He was under a wooden handcart

bào zhù shī qù mā mā de nà zhǐ xiǎo yáng gāo

抱著失去妈妈的那只小羊羔

Holding a lamb which lost its mother

‘No. We’ve agreed that you keep it for three days and then I’ll keep it for three days’

Kalbinur was found when I was walking aimlessly

This was her mother

其实是我们当地镇的

She was the daughter of the richest person

shǒu fù jiā lǐ de nǚ ér

首富家里的女儿

In our town

tā jiù yī zhí jué dé zì jǐ de hái zi

她就一直觉得自己的孩子

She always felt

yě yīng gāi qù dào chéng lǐ dú shū

也应该去到城里读书

Her children should go to schools in the city

但是凯丽的父亲

But Kalbinur’s father held a different opinion

The elder in his family suffered from senile dementia

It’s a long poem

和童年的一首长诗

That I want to dedicate to my hometown Shaya and my childhood

gù xiāng tè bié xiàng nóng liè de cù zhī

故乡特别像浓烈的醋汁

Hometown is like strong vinegar

shǐ wǒ de qiú zhī yù dà kāi

使我的求知欲大开

It makes me become really curious

nǐ tè bié xiǎng hé nà piàn tǔ dì hù dòng

你特别想和那片土地互动

I’m desperate to interact with the land

hé nǐ de jīng yàn hù dòng

和你的经验互动

xiǎo shí hòu wǒ men tǎng zài lù biān

小时候我们躺在路边

When I was a child, I lay beside the road (with my friends)

děng yī liàng mǎ chē jīng guò

等一辆马车经过

We waited for a carriage to pass by

mǎ chē shàng kě néng jiù yǒu yī gè wéi wú ěr zú de lǎo rén

马车上可能就有一个维吾尔族的老人

There might be a Uyghur old man on it

After boarding

我们就开始数他的胡子

We would begin to count his moustache

tā shuō nǐ men shuí néng shù qīng wǒ de hú zi

他说，你们谁能数清我的胡子

He said ‘I will give anyone who can get the right answer’

wǒ jiù gěi nǐ men yī chuàn pú táo

我就给你们一串葡萄

‘A bunch of grapes’

shuí yě shù bù qīng

谁也数不清

At last, no one said the right answer

dàn shì měi gè rén dōu néng dé dào yī chuàn pú táo

但是每个人都能得到一串葡萄

But everyone got a bunch of grapes

yǒu yī wǎn wǒ méi yǒu huí jiā

有一晚我没有回家

At one night I didn’t go back home

wǒ hé wǒ de hǎo péng yǒu

我和我的好朋友

I lay in the desert and watched meteorites

tǎng zài shā mò kàn liú xīng

躺在沙漠，看流星

With my good friends

jiā lǐ rén dōu bù zhī dào wǒ méi huí qù guò

家里人都不知道我没回去过

My family didn’t know that I didn’t return

dà jiā shuì jué cóng lái bù huì guān mén

大家睡觉从来不会关门

All the households opened their doors when they slept

yǒu shí hòu jiù tǎng zài shù shàng shuì

有时候就躺在树上睡

Sometimes I slept on a tree

zhōng guó de hú yáng shù zài shā yǎ

中国90%的胡杨树在沙雅

Shaya boasts 90% of the poplar trees in China

yīn wèi tā zhǎng le qiān nián

因为它长了千年

A poplar tree grows for a thousand years

duì xiǎo hái lái jiǎng tā jiù shì yī gè tiān táng

对小孩来讲它就是一个天堂

It’s heaven to a kid

nà piàn tǔ dì shàng shēng huó běn shēn de shī yì hé zhēn dì

那片土地上生活本身的诗意和真谛

The poetic quality and true essence of living in that land

They comprise the origin of the film

拍摄阶段特别幸福

I was so happy during the shooting

It suits all people
