第一个孩子当时是这样的

The first child was like this

他是因为得了一种再生障碍性贫血

He got a form of aplastic anemia

bǐ bái xuè bìng hái yào nán zhì

比白血病还要难治

More difficult to treat than leukemia

他们家不太有决心去治的

Their family is not very determined to treat

那这种情况，孩子是有感知的

特别孤单，但又在盼望什么的那种神情

Very lonely, but looking forward to something

他有先天性心脏病，他有隐睾，他有巨结肠

He has congenital heart disease, he has cryptorchidism, he has Hirschsprung

tā yǒu gāng mén bì suǒ tā yǒu fèi jié hé

他有肛门闭锁，他有肺结核

He has anal atresia, he has tuberculosis

xiǎo xué liù nián jí le

小学六年级了

Sixth grade primary school

shēn gāo zhǐ yǒu suì de yàng zi

身高只有6岁的样子

He is only 6 years old

tā men jiā jiù shì qí shí yǐ jīng bǎ tā fàng qì le

他们家就是其实已经把他放弃了

Their family actually gave him up

tā miàn duì wǒ men de mù guāng de shí hòu tā yǒng yuǎn dōu zài duǒ

他面对我们的目光的时候，他永远都在躲

When he faces our eyes, he is always hiding

我感觉像一个皮鞭下的猴一样

I feel like a monkey under a whip

bù tíng dì biàn huàn wèi zhì duǒ cáng nǐ duì tā mù guāng de biān dǎ

不停地变换位置，躲藏你对他目光的鞭打

Changing positions constantly, hiding your lashes from his eyes

huí lái jiù shāng liàng shì zěn me yàng néng gòu bāng nà gè hái zi

回来就商量是怎么样能够帮那个孩子

I'll discuss how I can help that child

hòu lái cái zhī dào zhè gè nán hái huí jiā

后来才知道，这个男孩回家

I learned later that the boy came home

他就一再地告诉他父母说

He told his parents repeatedly

如果有北京的电话打过来

If there is a call from Beijing

你们一定要接，那是要救我命的好人

He has grown to a few meters

就是有希望了，还可以继续长

There is hope, it can continue to grow

我觉得他可能都已经不在了

确实是比我过去做的任何采访都要累

It's really more tiring than any interview I did in the past

jiù shì měi yī cì xià qù lái tiān

就是每一次下去，20来天

Every time I go down, 20 days

měi yī gè bàn yuè zuǒ yòu wǒ men jiù huì xià qù yī tàng

每一个半月左右，我们就会下去一趟

We will go down every one and a half months or so

hái zi de yī jǔ yī dòng

孩子的一举一动

Every move of the child

nǐ dōu dé suí shí jì lù xià lái

你都得随时纪录下来

You have to record it at any time

jiù suàn tā men wǎn shàng dōu shuì le wǒ hái bù néng ān rán rù shuì

就算他们晚上都睡了，我还不能安然入睡

Even if they are all asleep at night, I still can't sleep peacefully

xiàng nà gè lǘ pí jì lǐ miàn nà gè shǎo nián de zhāng hào

像那个《驴皮记》里面那个少年的张浩

Like the young Zhang Hao in "Donkey Skin"

jí shǐ bà bà mā mā zài wài dǎ gōng huí lái le

即使爸爸妈妈（在外打工）回来了

Even if mom and dad (work outside) come back

他也是要跟爷爷奶奶，跟爷爷俩人挨著睡

He also wants to sleep next to his grandparents and grandpa

liǎn duì liǎn zuǐ duì zuǐ rán hòu shǒu duì shǒu

脸对脸，嘴对嘴，然后手对手

Face to face, mouth to mouth, then hand to opponent

gǎn jué dōu zài gòng yòng kōng qì yī yàng

感觉都在共用空气一样

It feels like sharing the air

tā men dōu shuì zhù le dàn shì wǒ hái shì yào guān chá yī xià

他们都睡著了，但是我还是要观察一下

They are all asleep, but I still have to observe

suǒ yǐ wǒ lǐ miàn de běn zi kě néng yǒu lái běn

所以我里面的本子可能有30来本

So there may be 30 books in my book

在做了第3、4次探访的时候

When I did the 3rd and 4th visits

shì wǒ tè bié jiān chí bù xià qù de shí hòu

是我特别坚持不下去的时候

When I can't hold on

wǒ jué dé gāo shàng shì bù qǐ zuò yòng de

我觉得高尚是不起作用的

I think nobleness doesn't work

qǐ zuò yòng de jiù shì shuō zuì dī de nà gè niàn tóu

起作用的就是说，最低的那个念头

What works is that the lowest thought

jiù shì wǒ lái dōu lái le wǒ bù néng zǒu

就是我来都来了，我不能走

I'm here, I can't go

huì kàn dào yǒu xiē tóng xíng zài zuò yī xiē bào kuǎn de

会看到有些同行在做一些爆款的

I will see some colleagues are doing some explosive

bǐ rú shuō bái yín shā rén àn

比如说白银杀人案

Like the silver murder case

jiān chí dào qī de shí hòu tū rán yòu xiǎng tōng le zhè gè wèn tí

坚持到6、7期的时候，突然又想通了这个问题

When I persisted to the 6th and 7th period, I suddenly figured out this problem

zhè zhǒng suǒ wèi de méi yǒu guān zhù dù méi yǒu rè diǎn

这种所谓的没有关注度，没有热点

This so-called lack of attention, no hot spots

qià qià shì tā men yīng gāi shòu guān zhù de dì fāng

恰恰是他们应该受关注的地方

It's precisely where they should be concerned

bǐ wǒ yǐ qián zuò guò de nà xiē wǒ jué dé dōu hái yǒu yì yì

比我以前做过的那些，我觉得都还有意义

I think it’s more meaningful than what I’ve done before

yī gè shàng hǎi de zhōng chǎn jiā tíng de yī gè hái zi

一个上海的中产家庭的一个孩子

A child of a middle-class family in Shanghai

tā yǒu zhè gè zì shā qīng xiàng tā bèi dà jiā jiào zuò zì shā bǎo bǎo

他有这个自杀倾向，他被大家叫做自杀宝宝

He has this suicidal tendency, he is called a suicide baby by everyone

zài tā yī suì duō de shí hòu tā mā mā jiù zài běi jīng chuàng yè

在他一岁多的时候，（他妈妈）就在北京创业

When he was over a year old, (his mother) started a business in Beijing

tā de fù qīn yòu shì yī gè xìng gé hěn qiáng de rén

他的父亲又是一个性格很强的人

His father is a very strong person

tā shì jiā zhōng zuì ruò xiǎo de

他是家中最弱小的

He is the weakest in the family

yuè lái yuè mǐn gǎn yuè lái yuè zì bēi zì bēi de tóng shí kě néng yòu zì ào

越来越敏感，越来越自卑，自卑的同时，可能又自傲

More and more sensitive, more and more inferior, while being inferior, you may be proud

bǐ rú shuō lǎo shī jué dé tā de kè shāo wēi méi yǒu zuò hǎo

比如说，老师觉得他的课稍微没有做好

For example, the teacher felt that his class was not doing well

tā zì jǐ yǒu liǎng cì pá shàng tā men jiào shì èr lóu de chuāng tái yào wǎng xià tiào

他自己有两次，爬上他们（教室）二楼的窗台要往下跳

He himself had twice, climbing on the windowsill on the second floor of their (classroom) to jump down

mā mā hòu lái yì shí dào zhè gè wèn tí zhī hòu

妈妈后来意识到这个问题之后

After mom realized this problem

níng kě fàng qì tā zài běi jīng de gōng zuò huí qù

宁可放弃她在北京的工作回去

I'd rather give up her job in Beijing and go back

ràng hái zi zì xìn xīn màn màn dì qǐ lái

让孩子自信心慢慢地起来

Let the child self-confidence slowly

zhōng chǎn jiā tíng jiē jí de hái zi yě zhè me bù róng yì

中产家庭阶级的孩子也这么不容易

It’s not easy for middle-class children

yě miàn duì zhè me yán zhòng de xīn lǐ wèn tí

也面对这么严重的心理问题

Face such a serious psychological problem

tā yě shì yī gè jì jìng de hái zi

他也是一个寂静的孩子

He is also a silent child

其实这个书还有一个主题，是破碎的家庭

In fact, this book has another theme, Broken Family

就是不管是乡下的那种打工的家庭

It doesn’t matter whether it’s the kind of working family in the country

hái shì zhè gè chéng shì lǐ miàn de zhè yàng yī zhǒng dà jiā dōu hěn máng lù

还是这个城市里面的这样一种大家都很忙碌

Or this kind of city in this city, everyone is busy

xíng chéng de zhè yàng yī zhǒng yǒu liè hén de jiā tíng

形成的这样一种有裂痕的家庭

Such a cracked family

jì shì jì jìng de hái zi yòu shì pò suì de jiā tíng

既是寂静的孩子，又是破碎的家庭

Both a silent child and a broken family

ér qiě zhè liǎng gè shì qíng shì lián zài yī qǐ de

而且这两个事情是连在一起的

And these two things are connected

wǒ xiǎng bǎ zhè xiē hái zi men de shēng mìng zhuàng tài hé tā men de gù shì chéng xiàn gěi dà jiā

我想把这些孩子们的生命状态，和他们的故事呈现给大家

I want to show the lives of these children and their stories to everyone

rú guǒ wǒ men zì jǐ de shēng yīn tài dà

如果我们自己的声音太大

If our own voice is too loud

kě néng hái zi men nà zhǒng shēng yīn jiù gèng tīng bù dào le

可能孩子们那种声音就更听不到了

Maybe the children’s voice is even less audible

wǒ jué dé wǒ men yě néng gòu tōng guò gēn zhè xiē hái zi men de lián jié

我觉得我们也能够通过跟这些孩子们的联结

I think we can also connect with these children

mǒu zhǒng chéng dù shàng ràng wǒ men de shēng mìng

某种程度上让我们的生命

Somehow make our lives

ràng wǒ men de xīn líng dé dào yī zhǒng ān fàng

让我们的心灵得到一种安放

Let our hearts get a place

yǒu zī yǎng rén xīn de zuò yòng

有滋养人心的作用

Has a nourishing effect
