xiǎo shí hòu jiù zài píng lín zhǎng dà de

小时候就在坪林长大的

I grew up in Pinglin

gāo zhōng bì yè yǐ hòu jiù qù tái běi xué shè jì zuò shè jì

高中毕业以后就去台北学设计、做设计

After graduating from high school, I went to Taipei, majored and worked in design

suì yǐ hòu xiǎng zhuǎn gè shēn wǎng qián zǒu

45岁以后想转个身往前走

When I turned 45, I decided to switch lanes

tā yuán lái shì yī gè chá chǎng

它原来是一个茶厂

It was a former tea factory

yīn wèi wǒ men zǔ xiān dōu shì zuò chá de ma

因为我们祖先都是做茶的嘛

My forefathers made tea

duì zhè biān de tǔ dì yǒu yī fèn tè bié de qíng gǎn

对这边的土地有一份特别的情感

So we’ve always had a special bond with the soil

dāng rán zuì zhòng yào de shì

当然最重要的是

And most importantly

wǒ shōu cáng le hěn duō wén wù yǐ hòu

我收藏了很多文物以后

Having collected so many cultural relics

xiǎng wèi tā men zhǎo yī gè ké

想为它们找一个壳

I want to find them a shelter

yīn wèi zhè biān shì shuǐ yuán bǎo hù qū

因为这边是水源保护区

The premise is located in a source water protection area

suǒ yǐ měi yī gè gèng gǎi dōu xū yào qù shēn qǐng

所以每一个更改都需要去申请

So we need authorization for every construction move

huā le dà gài yī nián bàn de shí jiān

花了大概一年半的时间

It took us a year and a half

bǎ jī běn jià gòu zài huī fù qǐ lái

把基本架构再恢复起来

To restore the basic structure

shì nèi kōng jiān dà gài píng fāng gōng chǐ

室内空间大概1500平方公尺

The indoor floor area is about 1,500 square meters

jiē dài qū de yī gè xuán guān

接待区的一个玄关

The vestibule

wǒ men chēng wèi jiào zuò yíng bīn qū

我们称为叫做迎宾区

Is called the reception area

èr lóu bù fēn wén wù de shōu cáng qū

二楼部分，文物的收藏区

The upper floor is a display area

hòu miàn shì chá de wén wù qū

后面是茶的文物区

And the tea cultural relics are in the back

nà kào hé chuáng jiù shì wǒ men shēng huó de bù fēn

那靠河床就是我们生活的部分

The living area is next to the bank

rán hòu zài wǎng xià zǒu

然后再往下走

The stairs lead us down

jiù shì wǒ hěn zhòng yào de mì mì jī dì

就是我很重要的秘密基地

To my most important secret base

nà rén jiā yǒu jiǔ jiào

那人家有酒窖

They have wine cellar

wǒ nà biān yǒu yī gè chá jiào

我那边有一个茶窖

And I have a tea cellar instead

zhè gè fáng zi běn lái tā shì zuò dōng cháo xī

这个房子本来它是坐东朝西

The house once faced west

suǒ yǐ huì xī shài

所以会西晒

So it suffered terrible heat of the setting sun

dàn shì wǒ xiàn zài bǎ tā biàn chéng zuò běi cháo nán

但是我现在把它变成坐北朝南

Then we changed it, it faces south now

xī gǔ jiù shì wǒ men cháo de nán fāng de fāng xiàng

溪谷就是我们朝的南方的方向

Where the valley is located

ràng rén qù xiǎng shòu de nà yī fèn guāng yǐng de gǎn jué

让人去享受的那一份光影的感觉

We are better positioned to enjoy the light and shadow

dāng nǐ zài zhè gè kōng jiān gēn yī qiè hù dòng de shí hòu

当你在这个空间跟一切互动的时候

When you are in the space, making interactions

jiù huì chǎn shēng yī zhǒng shēng mìng lì

A bit like the style of Suzhou gardens

柳暗花明的那一种层次感

Having that take a turn for the better sense of depth

zhè shì èr lóu de yī jiān chá shì

这是二楼的一间茶室

This is a tea room on the upper floor

shì gǔ miào yǔ de hóng sè gēn jīn huáng sè

是古庙宇的红色跟金黄色

Mainly shaded with red and golden color of ancient temples

yǐ ràng shì nèi biàn dé ān jìng

以让室内变得安静

These colors calm down the atmosphere

qù duì yīng wài miàn lǜ sè de zhí wù

去对应外面绿色的植物

In contrast to the vibrant plants outside

ràng tā fēi cháng zhuāng zhòng

让它非常庄重

So it appears even more solemn

néng gòu hěn ān jìng dì qù pǐn chá

能够很安静地去品茶

Creating a quiet space for tea tasting

zhè yī jiān shì qián hòu xiàng bǐ jiào xiǎo de chá shì

这一间是前后像比较小的茶室

And this is a smaller tea room

hòu miàn de qiáng jiù yòng le zhú zi de yán sè

后面的墙就用了竹子的颜色

The background wall is painted with the color of bamboo

ràng tā gèng ān jìng

让它更安静

Also aiming for a calming atmosphere

ér qiě dài lǜ yòu yǒu diǎn cháo qì

而且黛绿又有点朝气

While dark green is not entirely without vigor

rán hòu kāi yī gè xiǎo chuāng

然后开一个小窗

A small window is opened up here

bǎ guāng xiàn yǐn jìn lái

把光线引进来

To bring light in

xiàng zhè gè chá jiào ó

像这个茶窖哦

The tea cellar

dì dǐ xià wā le liǎng mǐ duō shēn

地底下挖了两米多深

Is two meters under the ground

hòu miàn de qiáng bì dōu shì yòng shí tóu huí tián

后面的墙壁都是用石头回填

And the walls are made of rocks

suǒ yǐ tā wán quán gēn shī qì gé jué

所以它完全跟湿气隔绝

Thus separating it from underground dampness

suǒ yǐ lǐ miàn de shì wēn dà gài wéi chí zài

所以里面的室温大概维持在

The room temperature down here

22度到25度之间

Stays between 22 to 25 degrees C

It was produced in 1984

píng lín bāo zhǒng chá dì yī cì de bāo zhuāng chá

坪林包种茶第一次的包装茶

This is among the first batch of packaged Pinglin Baozhong Oolong Tea

hěn duō rén dōu zhī dào shuō tái wān yǒu chá zhuān

很多人都知道说台湾有茶砖

Taiwan tea brick is very well known

dàn shì méi rén kàn guò

但是没人看过

But few has really seen it

xiàng zhè yī pào jiù huì hěn míng xiǎn

像这一泡就会很明显

This is a typical one

zhāo hé nián shì nián

昭和19年是1944年

The production year is 1944

lí xiàn zài jiù nián

离现在就76年

Which is 76 years from now

suǒ wèi sù chá jiù shì bù tiāo zhī zuì zì rán de chá

所谓素茶就是不挑枝最自然的茶

Plain tea is the most natural kind of tea where twigs are not discarded

dào xiàn zài yǐ jīng yǒu yī gè hěn liáng de mù zhì xiāng

到现在已经有一个很凉的木质香

After years of storage it now has a taste of wood note

wǒ zhè biān chá dà bù fēn dōu shì zì jǐ shōu de

我这边茶大部分都是自己收的

I collect most of the teas myself

wǒ xǐ huān lǎo chá de yuán yīn shì

我喜欢老茶的原因是

The reason I like teas with a history

wǒ men kě yǐ kàn dào nà zhǒng liú biàn de guò chéng

我们可以看到那种流变的过程

Is that you are able to see its evolvement

茶它是有生命的

Tea has life

chūn xià qiū dōng měi nián sì jì

春夏秋冬每年四季

Four seasons, a year

tā dōu zì jǐ huì yùn zhuǎn yī cì

它都自己会运转一次

It revolves according to the time table

nà tái wān yǒu yī jù hěn jiǎn dān de huà

那台湾有一句很简单的话

There is a saying in Taiwan that goes

guò lái zuò lái hē chá

“过来坐，来喝茶”

“Sit over here, have some tea”

zhè hěn suí kǒu de huà

这很随口的话

It’s casual

dàn shì tā jiù dài biǎo yī fèn hěn zhí jiē de xiāng tǔ qíng

但是它就代表一份很直接的乡土情

Meanwhile it creates a sense of warm and close

dà jiā tán jiā jù yě hǎo tán měi xué yě hǎo

大家谈家具也好，谈美学也好

We talk about furniture, or aesthetics

tán yì shù yě hǎo

谈艺术也好

Or we talk about art

lǐ miàn yǒu yī gè hěn zhòng yào de méi jiè jiù shì chá

里面有一个很重要的媒介就是茶

One of the important media is tea

tā zhǐ shì fēng fù le nà gè shēng huó de wén huà nèi hán ér yǐ

它只是丰富了那个生活的文化内涵而已

It enriches the cultural connotation of life
