《诗．唐风．绸缪》"三星在天。"毛传"三星，参也。"郑玄笺"三星，谓心星也。"均专指一宿而言。天空中明亮而接近的三星，有参宿三星，心宿三星，河鼓三星。据近人研究，《绸缪》首章"绸缪束薪，三星在天"，指参宿三星;二章"绸缪束刍，三星在隅"，指心宿三星;末章"绸缪束楚﹐三星在户"，指河鼓三星。
古人认为岁星由西向东十二年绕天一周，每年行经一个星次。三星，谓岁星行经三个星次，犹言三年。
指福﹑禄﹑寿三福神。
